She sees how her work is received by the children and parents she serves, and it reinforces her belief in the value of what she does. Both Mary’s systemwide point of view and Tanya’s more ser­vice-specific point of view will be needed as the Tree County Public Library plans the changes that will be required to implement the library’s new strategic plan.

They probably attended a planning orientation meeting three or four months ago; they may have participated in a review and discussion of the preliminary recommendations from the planning committee three months ago; and they may have read the draft goals and objectives last month. At least some of your staff will have tuned the whole process out and only participated when they were required to. You cannot assume that everyone is familiar enough with your goals and objectives to be able to use them as a framework for reviewing their current activities and thinking about possible new or changed activities.
