Often you don’t have enough fabric to fix your mistake! 2. Measure your quilt top through the vertical middle and cut two of your borders to that length. Usually in order to have the needed length, you need to have pieced that length from two strips. If you don’t want to have to piece your strips to get the needed length for your border, then be prepared to buy a lot more fabric and to simply cut the border lengths along the length of the fabric for a continuous piece. 3. Repeat Step 2 for the other two sides after you have sewn the first two borders onto the quilt.

But adding borders is one I shared with many quilters for many years, and it is still not my favorite part of the process. I think that usually when I am done with the blocks being assembled and I can see the quilt together, I feel done and don’t want to spend the time and energy it takes to add the borders.
