In the following, a few selected results concerning the adsorption of CO and C(h are presented. 2. -spectra were recorded on a Bruker IFS 113 v spectrometer equipped with transfer optics according to Heidberg, Hoge and Warskulat [4]. Thin films of NaCI were grown as epitaxial films on Ge(lOO). Analyzing LEBD profiles we are able to show quantitatively that the NaCI films accommodate monoatomic steps of the Ge substrate by elastic strain which is distributed over many lattice constants, forming an elastic "carpet".
