Mother's darning needle saved our clothes from completely wearing out. The price of cotton wobbled but tilted toward increase. For the first time at the end of the year we came out clear. One trifling incident, amusing in memory but disconcerting when it occurred, temporarily aroused a strong resentment toward the doctor. He had left a kind of cabinet contraption in the small office, surrendered to the boys for a sleeping room. He promised Page 18 that he would come for it at his convenience. One night curiosity impelled us to pry it open.
